Day 17 Terradillos de las Templarios

We are now in the meseta
having left the wine country of Rioja behind. This is the northern plains of Spain with long stretches of flat farm land and acres and acres of grains growing in all shades of green. It is very WINDY and sometimes you feel you may take off and fly with the backpack on! The winds cause the fields of grains to wave like water- it is beautiful. The towns are few and far between- today 18k before we reached the first one! Some find it monotonous but it is very peaceful after the big cities. Some of the towns are like ghost towns/ you can walk through without seeing anyone - 80 people live on this town but haven't seen many. We have sunshine again today but the forcast is for rain soon. We are all relaxing in the courtyard after a long day walking- this is when most of the socializing takes place. Developed my first blisters of the walk today on both feet- who knows why? I have been "the nurse" on the Camino helping with others so I guess it is my turn :-)
The Meseta
The church in Terradillos de Los Templarios
Check out the arrows on the road!
The "older" gentlemen walk around in groups socializing- you see them in every town and village

  1. Over half way there ... congrats! Does the landscape look at all like eastern WA? Love that the locals leave resting places out for you, and you've become.the nurse to your fellow pilgrims! thanks for lighting a candle in my honor. I'm keeping you and Brad in my thoughts and prayers! Buen Camino .... Roxie

  4. Well, it's Mom again and I am enjoying all the pictures you have posted and your interesting observations that you have experienced along the way. You keep posting about the peace and quite you have found while on your trek but Lynda - a few figures are not real so they don't talk (LOL)...I know it's peaceful but I loved the picture of the three old guys walking together with their hands behind their backs wonder what they are talking about....hummmm...! Sorry to hear you have blisters and uncomfortable while they heal. We love you both and pray that more increditable sites await you. Love Mom

  5. Aloha from sunny Poipu, Kauai! We have been neglectful but have gotten all caught up again on your pilgrimage the past 4 days. So sorry to hear about the virus you got Lynda and now blisters. I hope they heal quickly. Our little Piper had surgery this past Wednesday at Sacred Heart. She has had a growing infected lymph node in her neck and the Peds ENT after checking her out on May 8th said surgery! We thought it may be a brachial cleft cyst but we have to wait for the path report. Poor darling. She was in surgery for almost 3 hours due to the complicated place of the many infected lymph nodes. Very strange. Large incision now. Had to head back to the ED yesterday for N/V and fever. Dx of ashma. Tough road for them and here we are too far away to help! We feel terrible about it. Anyway, things are improving and we have had much sun and surf and rest. Glad to hear Brad got new insoles. An unusual purchase, then maybe not with the journey you are on! Miss you and keep those inspiring photos coming! Love K and K
