Day 23 To the mountains!

We have left the Meseta and are climbing into the mountains. The albergue we stayed in last night had no heat and it was really cold. We left this morning in strong headwinds and very cold- it was a really hard day- it takes twice the energy to push forward against the wind! After lunch we started climbing into the mountains and by the time we reached the little town of Foncebadon at 1450m elevation it started to hail. We miss the heat of the Meseta although the mountains are beautiful with many colors of heather in bloom. Tomorrow we climb to the highest point on the Camino. We are getting closer to Santiago- hope the weather improves- it makes a big difference.
The storks are busy this time of year!
The heather blooms all along the trails
Some of the buildings in town have been repaired a few times
The stairs in the albergue
We pass the cemeteries on the edge of every town- they are all fenced and gated-each site is made of slab granite and each site seems to be the whole family
