A very long, hot day today (30 k) across the Meseta- sore feet which are propped up at the moment awaiting the call to dinner. We are in the small village of Calzadilla de Los Hermanillos (the name is bigger than the town) the towns are few and far between- you are at the mercy of the cook in the albergue- there is nowhere else to eat- the pilgrim dinner usually consists of a first course of soup or sometimes salad followed by the main course of pork, fish or last night rabbit! They serve fried eggs with many of the dishes- hard to find vegetables. Usually with some kind of potato-desert of yogurt or fruit. All the wine you want. Hardly any spice- everything is accompanied by white crusty bread- I mean everything! The menu is getting weary some - we were excited about a frozen pizza the other day! Heading into Leon in a few days and we will have more choices- everyone is loosing weight- all our pants are loose! The one great thing they have here is coffee- the cafe con leche is wonderful.

Relaxing at the albergue after a long walk
Pilgrim dinner with Fran (England ) Gerald (Ireland) Rafael (Scot) Sylvia (Spain) and Louish (Portugal)
Heading into Sahagun
Gate into Sahagun
One of the many ancient bridges we cross
Slab granite stairs in the albergue - Brad was impressed!

ReplyDeleteLove the pictures and descriptions of your day. It won't be the same walking Remi in Edmonds.
ReplyDeleteSo glad you are feeling better, I am in awe of your perseverance! The photos are great -- which one of you is the photographer? Safe travels, Jane
ReplyDeleteIs that a new shirt you're wearing? Oh wait, it's the same one.....never mind! It's wonderful that you continue to meet new friends as you go. Stay the course! Do you ever just take a "day off" other than when you're sick? Love, K and K
ReplyDeleteHi Lynda and Brad - I love following your journey - brings back amazing memories! Hope you are feeling better now. You're right - the white bread gets very tedious but the cafe con leche is the best! Take care and thanks for this wonderful blog! Mari & John
